PGL Bucharest 2025: Halfway Mark Updates
The PGL Bucharest 2025, a premier Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) tournament, has reached its halfway mark. This tournament began on April 6th and will run until April 13th, 2025. It is being hosted at Romania’s capital, Romexpo venue. With a substantial prize pool of $1,250,000, this event is part of the S-Tier competitive calendar and houses 16 globally recognised CS2 teams.
Format of the Tournament
The competition’s format is separated into two main stages: the Group Stage and Playoffs. The Group Stage follows a 16-team Swiss System where each match is decided by the best-of-three (Bo3) games. From this stage, the top eight teams progress to the playoffs. The Playoffs consists of a single-elimination bracket with again Bo3 matches, while the Grand Final will be determined by a best-of-five (Bo5) game.
Participating Teams
The tournament welcomed a mix of 12 invited and 4 regionally qualified teams. Some notable names were missed this year, including Vitality, Spirit, and MOUZ. However, those that took part in the tournament came with a formidable reputation. The invited teams were: G2 Esports, The MongolZ, FaZe Clan, Eternal Fire, Team Falcons, Team Liquid, FURIA, Virtus.pro, GamerLegion, 3DMAX, Astralis, and paiN Gaming. The regionally qualified teams were: Apogee Esports (Europe), Complexity (North America), Legacy (South America), and Rare Atom (Asia).
Key Contenders
Among these participating teams, some were more strongly favoured than others. Teams like The MongolZ and Eternal Fire were deemed as top contenders due to their exceptional performance in international tournaments from earlier in the year. FaZe Clan and G2 Esports were also among the top picks based on both their strong rosters and recent match records.

The allocated prize money is distributed as such:
- 1st: $400,000
- 2nd: $187,500
- 3rd-4th: $150,000 and $87,500

Predictions
Forecasts based on recent performances suggest that Eternal Fire and The MongolZ may dominate the Swiss Stage. Conversely, teams like G2, FaZe Clan, and Virtus.pro are also likely to fare well in the playoffs.
