Dota 2 Patch 7.39 Overview

The gaming landscape for Dota 2 changed with the introduction of Patch 7.39 on May 22, 2025. This update brought about 18 new or altered facets, which increased the ways to customize heroes. Some of these new facets made certain heroes perform beyond expectation, but there were a few that didn’t quite deliver. This assessment is about five facets from the patch that did not meet the mark, in alphabetical order.

New Facets in Patch 7.39

The following facets are some interesting shifts brought about by the new patch:

  • Malignant Mist (Abaddon): This new facet allows Mist Coil to distribute up to 100% of the hero’s attack damage and influences from abilities and items to enemies. It expands the scope for Abaddon to perform as a ranged caster with excellent burst potential, especially when paired with items like Daedalus.
  • Bloodrage Silence (Bloodseeker): The addition of this facet enables Bloodseeker to silence targets with Bloodrage while increasing their damage output, hearkening back to the hero’s earlier abilities.
  • Money Trees (Nature’s Prophet): This facet lets Nature’s Prophet plant ‘money trees’ on deceased enemies, providing an innovative economic advantage.
  • Chainmail Consumption (Clockwerk): Among the more peculiar facets, this one allows Clockwerk to consume Chainmail items for long-lasting protection.
  • Malpractice (Witch Doctor): This perk enables the Witch Doctor’s Maledict, allowing it to damage enemies consistently, even after the hero’s death.

Some other considerable facets include Resonating Ridge for Earthshaker, Evil Eye for Lich, and Sandblast for Sand King.

The new patch also reinstated several well-liked neutral items, updated the game’s map, and introduced new mechanics such as the Dormant Curio. This tier 1 neutral item upgrades the next Neutral item by 30%, giving players strategic options between immediate or delayed power increases.

Members of the Dota 2 community have taken a keen interest in these changes, with many content creators sharing analysis and guide videos about which facets could be overpowered or lackluster in the current meta.
