Understanding LoL Role Quests

Role Quests are an upcoming feature set to significantly alter the gameplay mechanics of popular online game League of Legends in 2026. Each of the game’s roles will have specific quest tracks that are activated by the choice of role in the champion selection. These quest tracks offer players incentives to fulfill their assigned role and discourage lane swaps as players following their designated role will progress faster through their quests. Taking part in standard gameplay activities like killing minions, champions, towers, or following epic objectives, are key in quest progression.

Role-Specific Quest Rewards

Each role in the League of Legends game will have varied rewards.

Top Lane: Players in the top lane stand to garner substantial benefits from Role Quests. Finalizing their quests will reward top laners with a free longer cooldown Teleport with a shield that scales with maximum health, or an advanced version if they have already picked Teleport. In addition to this, they receive more experience from the start of a game and from various in-game sources after quest completion. Top lane players’ level caps rise to 20.
Bot Lane: Bot laners will enjoy rewards that feed into the ‘carry’ fantasy aspect of the game. After completing their quests, bot laners receive increased gold from minion kills, champion kills, and assists for the rest of the game, as well as a seventh item slot specifically for boots which will free up inventory space for another Legendary item. They will also obtain a bulk sum of gold.
Mid Lane: Information regarding mid lane-specific rewards is scarce, but it has been noted that changes are planned.
Jungle: Rewards for junglers include additional gold and experience from larger monsters, enhanced movement speed in the jungle, and increased Smite damage. Jungle players already have an existing quest mechanism through pet evolution.
Support: Support players will have a unique inventory slot for Control Wards upon completion of their quests. This will allow support players to maintain vision control without sacrificing late-game items. Additionally, Control Wards will be available to purchase at a discount for support players.

Aegis of Valor: An Additional Feature

A system called Aegis of Valor will be introduced alongside Role Quests. This system is aimed at rewarding autofilled players, players who fill roles that are less popular, and players of priority roles like jungle and support. These players will not lose LP in a lost game and will accrue double LP for a win, so long as they accomplish a mastery score of C or greater.

The Thought Behind Role Quests

Riot Games, the developers of League of Legends, designed Role Quests to correct a present imbalance where top and bot lanes are the weakest roles in-game. They hope that the considerably higher rewards for these roles will address the issue and serve to increase satisfaction for the players taking on these roles.
