StarLadder Budapest Major 2025 Concludes Stage 3

The third stage of the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025, a widely followed Counter-Strike Major tournament, has come to an end. The next part of the competition moves to the MVM Dome where the top eight teams will compete for the second CS Major trophy of the year.

Proceeding to Single-Elimination Playoffs

Following the tumultuous Swiss stages, the Budapest Major is taking on a clear structure with the introduction of the single-elimination bracket Playoffs. Moving forward, all games will follow a best-of-three (Bo3) format. Additionally, for the first time in the tournament’s history, a best-of-five (Bo5) Grand Final will be held.

About The Tournament

The StarLadder Budapest Major 2025 brought together a total of 32 teams who were directly invited based on their scores in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS). The tournament, running from November 24 to December 14, 2025, offers a prize pool of $1,250,000 USD.

Tournament Format

The tournament is divided into several stages. There were three Swiss stages before the ongoing Playoffs. Stage 1 and Stage 2 each had 16 teams, where the top 8 teams from each stage advanced to the next, and the bottom 8 teams were eliminated. Stage 3 also had a 16-team Swiss with the top 8 teams qualifying for the Playoffs. During the Swiss stages, games leading to elimination and advancement followed a Bo3 format, while other games abided by a Bo1 format.

Key Teams and Playoff Decisions

Renowned teams including Vitality, Team Spirit, Team Falcons, MOUZ, G2 Esports, FURIA, paiN, and The MongolZ were among those directly invited to compete in Stage 3. Other prominent teams, including Natus Vincere, Astralis, Team Liquid, Aurora, 3DMAX, MIBR, Passion UA, and TYLOO, joined the tournament from the earlier stages.

In Stage 3, a 16-team Swiss format was conducted. Teams’ rankings were initially determined by VRS, followed by a Buchholz score – a tie-breaker system based on opponents’ results. Teams securing 3 wins acquired a place in the Playoffs, whereas those with 3 losses were eliminated.
