Changes in Organization for Dota 2’s International Event
Austin “Cap” Walsh recently shared on a Twitch stream that game developer, Valve, will no longer participate in managing the International, Dota 2’s premier event. Instead, Professional Gamers League (PGL), which has been engaged with the tournament from the sixth edition onwards, will take complete charge of the project.
The History of The International’s Organization
Valve was the original organizer for the International. In the beginning years, the company single-handedly managed the first five iterations of the event. From the planning to the execution, everything related to the tournament was under Valve’s purview. Valve’s significant role in the event ensured seamless coordination and high gaming standards.
PGL’s Involvement with The International
PGL stepped into the picture from the sixth edition of the International. Since then, it has been an active participant in organizing the tournament alongside Valve. PGL has developed a reputation for delivering high-quality eSport events. Their involvement has helped elevate the International’s status over the years, setting new standards in eSport competitions.
The Future of The International
With Valve stepping back, PGL will now assume full responsibility for the International. Although Walsh does mention that the future status of the International is something he is uncertain about, he makes it clear PGL will be completely in charge. There’s no direct word from Valve regarding its decision, the reason, or its future involvement in any capacity.
What the Future Holds for Dota 2’s Big Event
It is currently unknown whether the International will sustain its status in the coming years under PGL’s management alone. Despite that, the fact that PGL will fully handle Dota 2’s biggest competitive event is an important development in the world of eSports. As a professional gaming company, PGL has contributed significantly to the growth and success of the International since they started their involvement.
Awaited Developments and Changes
Gamers, fans, and stakeholders in the eSports industry are all looking forward to seeing how PGL will manage the International. Several crucial considerations come into play, such as maintaining the high standards set by Valve and managing the expectations of the vast player base and the audience. However, PGL has already demonstrated its commitment to the International and its capability in delivering top-notch gaming events.
